Being Present This Holiday Season

The holiday season is known for the many gifts shared between family, friends, coworkers, and loved ones. It’s truly an exciting time of year. No matter the stresses or life events that have unfolded over the last eleven months, we can all sense the shift in the air—an unspoken collective feeling of joy, warmth, and celebration.

Whether you honor Christmas or any of the beautiful holidays that fill the December calendar, there’s a spirit of togetherness that’s hard to miss.

While receiving and giving presents is fulfilling for many, it can also be stressful for others. Finding the perfect gift, dealing with shipping delays, or simply feeling overwhelmed by the pressure of it all can take away from the joy. Some people skip the stress entirely and choose the generous simplicity of a gift card—and that’s perfectly okay.

Our lives are made up of memories—some we recall only faintly, others we remember vividly because of the emotions tied to them. Being present allows us to experience joy in the doing, not just the outcome. Happiness can be fleeting, but joy is rooted deep within us. It grows from gratitude, mindfulness, and embracing whatever comes our way.

Being present might look like focusing on wrapping the gifts instead of worrying about the cookies still waiting for the oven. It might mean simplifying the shopping list this year and choosing instead to savor time with your family, friends, or loved ones. It’s the difference between constantly doing and intentionally being.

Presence also brings intentionality. It’s easy for our minds to wander—to think about work, the new year ahead, or the long list of things waiting for us after the holidays. And yes, preparing for January 1, 2026, is normal.

But let’s also normalize the sweet splendor of embracing the now, even as we acknowledge the future that’s coming.
